To welcome everyone back to golf for the New Year, Margaret House (Bruce and Rosie’s accommodation business) sponsored a sausage sizzle to encourage a good start to the year.
We had 30 nominations, which was great, and the weather was stunning. The course was full of visitors but this many players turning up fully justifies our competition. Jim Rasaiah was visiting from Pymble GC in NSW and it was good to see Ian Kerr and Gavin Bunnings return.
John Wholagan played very good final holes to come in with 21 points to win our first competition of 2023. Gerard McCabe was second beating Jon Bowden in a count back for second with 19 points. Kenny Wapshaw and Jon Beales both scored 18 points. It was great to see Jon Beales back playing again, he has dedicated a lot of his time over the past few years to looking after Phyllis, but now Phyllis has a place in Mirembeena which now takes some pressure off Jon. Jon also won the OBE.
Novelties were won by Terry Halsall (2), Jim Kendra, Jon Bowden, Merv McKillop and Ken Miles. Mike Beales (obviously over indulged during Xmas and NY) won the chocolate with 10 points. Merv won the wheel.
Thanks go to Alan Dale and Dave Benson, along with Nigel, for helping prepare the BBQ and thanks also go to Ken Miles for donating a few bottles of Minot for us drink. It was a good day to visit veterans.
