Vale to Mike Beale

Mike Beale passed away on the morning of Wednesday, May 29, 2024. Mike was a keen member of both the Margaret River Veterans but also the Country Veterans Golf Association. Mike was our delegate for the CVGA for several years and went to every game, along with Jon Beales, until his health deteriorated in recent years.

Mike also participated in the Stick Pickers after golf on a Tuesday, before he turned 80, but then left it to the younger blokes.

Mike loved all sports, but particularly cricket. He travelled the world as a journalist reporting on cricket. When he retired, Mike came to live in Cowaramup, where he has a son.

Mike also loved his food and could tell you what was going to served at every CVGA event and how it compared to other events. He also knew where all the best Chinese and Indian restaurants were on the way to and from a game.

UNITED KINGDOM – MARCH 08: Mike Beale presents the Daily Star Player of the Month award for November to Derby County goalie Peter Shilton. British goalkeeper Shilton (born 1949) made his debut at Leicester City FC, aged 16. While at Nottingham Forest, his team won the League Championship and European Cup. Shilton was the England goalie during the 1986 World Cup quarter final against Argentina when Diego Maradona’s controversial ‘Hand of God’ goal was allowed. He appeared on the national side at the age of 40 in the 1990 World Cup. Shilton played for the English national football team 125 times, more than any other player. In 1992 he became manager of Plymouth Argyle, and later become an established speaker and broadcaster. (Photo by SSPL/Getty Images)
