Ross Fraser’s 70th Birthday

It is starting to become a bit of a tradition now that members are celebrating milestone birthdays by sponsoring an event. Ross turned 70 on Wednesday, 24th January and wanted everyone to be part of his celebration.

We had a good field of 30 players come out to enjoy a beautiful day, weatherise. Strangely the scores of the day didn’t reflect the good conditions, with the winning score being 18 points by Bob Williams. Runner-up was Phil McCann losing on a count back with 18 points also. Bruce Darby was third with 17 points and then the rest were all below 17. With the extra sponsorship money, we were also able to give out 8 novelties to help make this a really fun and engaging day.

Ross had a friend, Adam Sutton join us, and Adam started his round with a chip in Eagle on #7. Unfortunately for Adam, his game went downhill from there, but at least he will be able to brag about this for a while.

David Benson came out early in the morning and prepared the BBQ so that after the game he and Jim Watson were able to cook the gourmet hamburgers. Thank you to both of them for their excellent preparation.

Everyone really enjoyed the hamburger, obviously a lot better than a simple sausage sizzle and I hope Ross enjoyed the day. It was also pleasing to see a few new members come and join us. David Noske, Dean Kemp and Peter Wilson have all played the last couple of weeks and we hope they, along with a few more of this younger veteran group, continue to come out and enjoy the social atmosphere that we try to create each Tuesday morning.

Mike Beale also had a birthday, turning 87 this week, and although he couldn’t play, it was great to see him join us after the game to catch up with everyone.
