We have had a very progressive and productive year in 2002. Liam has really started to develop his own wilful personality and is starting to display character traits that must have come from his mother. For Father's Day this year Liam bought me a Dinosaur Dig Kit and we sat there for hours chipping away carefully at the plaster mould extracting all the pieces. I was amazed at his patience and persistance and we had a wonderful time.

Daen has had a good year, completing a pre-apprenticeship in electirical trades and now looks like he has picked up an apprenticeship with one of the local electricians. In September, Daen lost his drivers license for 3 months for driving under the influence. Hopefully he will learn from the experience.

In July, Natsumi and ?? vistited from Hikami in Japan. Their school has visited us for the last 5 years and I usually go up to Perth to pick them up and drive them down to Margaret River. Natsumi last visited before she was married and it was great to catch up with her again and talk babies. As always, Liam is spoilt and Natsumi bought him several little gifts that he loved until he had destroyed them.

In October this year we bought a house down in Prevelly. We intend knocking down the house and building a new house specifically to rent out. We have sold a house in Perth to finance the project. We let Daen stay in the house for a while, but we received a couple of complaints about the noise and the parties and felt it wasn't good to upset the neighbours before we built our new house. Daen is back home living with us now and we think he is happier this way, he didn't complain too much when we evicted him.

The play group had to remove all its play equipment this year since it didn't meet Australian standards. Rosie tended for the equipment and we then had to pull it apart and take it back to our property. We decided to erect it all out in the paddock. There were two platforms, a walkway and a slide. I decided to raise the smaller of the platforms so that the slide could come off it, we will also build a cubby house on top of it when we get the time. The larger platform was then constructed so that the two could be connected with the walk way. I spent most of the September holidays planning this out and constructing it so that it would be ready for Liam's birthday.

In October, Liam turned four and we had a few of his friends from playgroup over. Liam was a bit bemused as the kids turned up with presents for him but he quickly got the hang of the whole idea and was unbelievably excited as each friend turned up.

As expected, they spent hours out in the play area and had a great time.

For his birthday, Liam received lots of dinosaurs, Bob the Builder toys, a mobile phone, playdough and a Buzz Lightyear suit. As you can see below, he loves to talk on the phone and strangely enough, his phone manner has improved dramatically the more he practises.

The school year ended with the annual staff party at our house. We reached a record this year of over 100 people (which is to be expected since the school continues to grow). We set up the Apex Ducks in the paddock alongside Liam's playground and this kepts all the kids happy for hours. The parents lined themselves up along the fence and watched their children play in relative safety. Liam had a good Christmas, with parties for Playgroup, Toy Library, the school and then Christmas Day at my parents in Mandurah.

Rosie and I are happily planning our holiday for next year. In June we are going to Queensland and then down to Canberra. We are hoping to take in the theme parks for Liam followed by a week at a golf resort for us (all day baby sitting included) and then a week of skiing for the whole family at Perisher. We have booked all the flights using frequent flyer points which was handy. Every thing else has gone well this year and the new year looks promising and exciting. Looking forward to seeing how everything goes.
